DIY TASSEL BASKET AND SNEAK PEAK at our Walnut NIGHTSTANDSSo this week, I am going to share with you 2 DIY projects that I have going on! One was a relatively simple tassel basket, while the other is a much more complex pair of custom walnut nightstands. The tassel basket was a relatively simple project that started at the tassel market in Mumbai about 1 month back. It so much interesting to go an soak in all of the options that were out there. As many of you might know, leading up to this Spring One Room Challenge, I had been traveling for 20 days throughout India and Japan. Although, for the most part it was a family trip, I gathered tons of artistic inspiration and even squeezed in some design work while abroad. This work led me to the launch of my capsule indigo pillow collection and eventually the tassel market. Check out the picture of the tassel market below! For the pillows, I really wanted to use chunky ivory wool yarn. Ultimately, I chose to design some tassels of our own. After coming up with this simple ivory design, I started to notice all of the tassel work that is out there and all of the amazing details that make the perfect tassel. You can meet the artist that made all of the tassels that I used in this basket. I started out by choosing this basket. I'm sure you might have seen it because it has been around for a while now. After looking at many amazing baskets, I decided to use this one, although there were so many others out there. I will be sharing a basket round-up on Monday. This one is affordable, collapsible and the right size to be stowed beneath the DIY nightstand. To make it look a bit more unique an authentic, I decided to customize it with the handmade tassels. I have seen so many cute pom-pom and tassel baskets out there. I love the way it looks with the ivory tassel against the neutral basket. Next, came the simplest part, I pushed the tie through a small hole in the opening of the basket weave, then I tied a knot in the yarn. Then, I got a little carried away by adding in five tassels. Later, I placed four spaced evenly around the piece. I am torn between which one I like the best. Which one would you choose? Next up, I headed over to the wood-shop, where I dropped off the nightstand pieces that I had glued up. As promised here is a peak at the walnut nightstands! Unfortunately, when I went to pick them up yesterday there was a mistake with the millwork. Instead of cutting them as mirror images, which would then frame out the bed. Both were cut exactly the same, so essentially I have 2 right-side nightstands. Being that I am short on time, this threw me for a loop! I guess getting things perfection is a process. I took the left one back to the lumberyard today to have the holes replaced by the drill press. Stay tuned and I will share an image of the updated nightstands over the weekend. I am reminding myself that day be day it is coming together slowly piece by piece. I have ceiling painting and a big installation planned for next Tuesday, then on Wednesday I plan to go live on Instagram to share all the fun styling the space for the photoshoot and the Week 6 reveal.
Until then, I hope you have enjoyed seeing these small updates! To see how the space looked last week, please visit Week 4 of the Laid Back California Master Bedroom and be sure to follow along all of the other One Room challenge room transformations too. Lastly, here is a peak at the other corner of the room that I have been hiding from you. I hope to repurpose the indigo wall hanging in another part of the room.

I really like the tassels that are closer together. Go with option number one. And I love that basket!

Thanks, Tiffany! I really appreciate your opinion. The best part is that the tassels are so easy to move around, so I might just change it back;)
