California Eclectic Master Bedroom: WEEK 4 (AND 3!)

I can't believe that it is already Week 4 of the One Room Challenge. I am wondering how I am going to pull this room all together! I am focusing on all of the little details, and narrowing my scope. The biggest furniture change will be the custom floating nightstands, which I am DIYing (is that even a word?!)

I will be assembling and installing the nightstands over the weekend. Be sure to watch my Insta stories on Sunday to see how that goes! I needed to find something that would be the perfect balance to our modern wooden platform bed. I love this bed, and it is something that I enjoy looking at and sleeping in every day. It is fairly new as we purchased this year. I knew that I wanted the nightstands to feature some storage, be minimal and light architecturally so as to not compete with the bed.

The nightstands are inspired by this picture that I shared of the bedroom inspiration. The nightstand are a perfect fit, although I liked a few others too. I will share the final look and how I made them next week b/c it is probably something you can do too!

Here is proof that I was actually working during week 2 (haha!). I decided to use a lot of my wood scrap that I have left-over from woodworking to create custom walnut nightstands as seen in the inspiration photo above.

Below, you can see the walnut hardwood that I glued-up using a 24" bar clamp, that comes in handy for anything from repairing chairs to adhering strips of hardwood. For this portion of the project, I had my walnut scrap cut into 14.5" and 25.5" lengths. I am saving the whole tutorial for next week, when I can finally share all of the details!

Keep reading to see where we will place the nightstands and what other updates are in store for our bedroom. My goal is to create a California eclectic sanctuary through details such as artwork, paint(?) and accessories.
Here is a look at the wall the bed is on. As you can see, we really need some new nightstands and we need to keep them light and minimal because the bed takes up quite a bit of space!

Although, I have a strong affinity for interior design, I have always loved designing the products and details that go into making a space unique. Other details that I am obsessing over/addressing this week are product selections for bedding and fine art. My goal is to choose bedding that accents my capsule pillow collection, which soft-launched, as I will probably end up using this long indigo lumbar pillow that is pictured below.

Also, designed a long ivory pillow that features tiny mirrors and crewel work. I am leaning towards the long blue lumbar pill, depending on which sheets I select.

Here is some of the bedding that I am considering from Brooklinen, Parachute Home, and Homestead Organics. I recently discovered Homestead on Instagram and I like that their cotton is organic and sustainable. All of the bedding that I am considering is white because I hope to add in a neutral color blanket. Please let me know in the comments, if you have tried any of these brands for yourself.
My best friend purchased her bedding from both Brooklinen and Parachute home. She loves both and alternates the two sets.

Of course no ORC challenge would be complete without before pictures of the most annoying corner of the bedroom. While our white bookshelf is excellent, I have to say a certain someone's shoe collection needs a place to hide;) I am currently seeking solutions for the continually expanding collection and my own necklace collection which is ever-so professionally hung to the wall with a screw. I am planning to dramatically improve the function and vibration in this corner with some amazing California photography- that I have been eyeing for months!

I know I was busy back during ORC Fall 2017, but I just can't believe how quickly this challenge is going this time around! I think for me the biggest challenge was being out of the country for the 20 days leading up to the challenge.

Here is a preview of what is coming up next!
Week 5: I will share the nightstand tutorial and a basket DIY plus make decisions about bedding.

Week 6: You will see more details such as mirrors, healing crystals, accessories and fine art layered into the space. I had read about the practice of supercharging your walls with the crystal quartz in the past, but I have not decided if I will take the plunge just yet.

Thanks again to Linda of Calling It Home and House Beautiful for hosting this inspiring challenge! If you are participating in this challenge, I would love to hear from you and see how your space is coming along:)
