Fun Friday: Marbled Paper Video DIY

Greetings! I hope you all are ready to see something new and kind of magical today?! I had so much fun making my first ever diy video, where I share the process of how-to marbleize paper prints. I like to use the ancient Japanese technique of Suminagashi, marbling paper, to create everything from stationary to larger paper prints. These can even be used as gift wrap or papers for collage.
I hope to create more videos in 2018, if you would like to see specific tutorials, then please subscribe to my youtube channel and let me know what you are interested in.

I know many of you may have questions about the list of materials. Here is the full list of some of the best solutions that I have found for marbling on paper.
Materials:
  • 12" x 18" Pacon Construction Paper (heavyweight sulphite paper)
  • 11" x 14" Borden and Riley #116 (for high-end quality prints)
  • Suminagashi Marbling Inks
  • Large 18"x26" shallow tray
  • Sumi brushes (optional) I found that most sumi brushes were made of goat, wolf or horse hair. Since I try to avoid using animal products, due to the ethics around their sourcing. I am searching for a cruelty-free sumi brush. Readers, if you find a brush like this, please let me know about it so that I can share it here.
Also, after testing out many different papers, I found the Pacon heavyweight construction paper works very well. It absorbs the inks quickly and the paper does not seems to have many additives or fillers, which will make the inks absorb less and run on the surface. My favorite results were printed on the colored construction paper. It is fascinating how adding a colored paper background to the almost pastel inks added dimension to their appearance. I also recommend trying it out on the Pacon white sulphite paper.

Lastly, I am thrilled that some of you will be designing prints with me at the Holiday Textile Marbling workshop this weekend. I can not wait to experience your creativity!
