CREATE AND EXPLORE Craft: SHibori scarf workshopGreetings from our Indigo dye gathering in Beverly Hills! Are you all ready to see the magic that transpired this weekend using Shibori pleating and binding techniques with indigo dye? I am excited to recap and share all of details of this past event with you. It is one class in a series of workshops from designers here in L.A. that I'm bringing to friends, readers and the creative community. If you have ever wanted to learn more about indigo dyeing and the art of Shibori. Today is your day, as you will catch a glimpse in to the dyeing process. First, I prepared the indigo stock, that I created using Michel Garcia's 123 Fructose Vat recipe from indigo powder that I sourced. I promise to share his recipe along with how to prepare the vat very soon, as I myself am still perfecting the art of balancing my dye vat. Continue reading to see the astonishing results along with find out more about how you can join an event like this too.
You will see participants using Itajime and Kumo shibori as they arrange and tie their textiles to create extraordinary results.

ORC Week 6: How to make a custom Flag GarlandWelcome to A Day in the Life, where lately it has been creative and full of projects! One of those projects is the One Room Challenge, if you have been following along, thank you! We have made it to Week 6 of the challenge, and the weeks are going by too fast, am I right?! You can read more about the ORC here, and find out what all the other participants are doing! Today, with only 1 week left of the challenge, I have the Nature Boy's Bedroom installation planned for this weekend. I am hitting pause on the progress button, until I can get both the painters and my handyman over to help me. Both have been so busy over the past couple of weeks. So I guess we can all just stay in bed today...;) Unless you want to make Graphic Flag Pendant Banner with me? Here is a quick how-to project that I hope you will enjoy! You can use it as a guide to create a graphic flag banner for your children's space or your event. It is fairly simple project with a short list of supplies. In the spirit of adventure for Nature Boy's Bedroom, we wanted our banner to read E-X-P-L-O-R-E. One Room Challenge Week 5: Painting the Walls and LightingThis week feels exciting because we finally made a bit more progress on the Boy's Nature Bedroom, you may remember last week, when I narrowed it down to 4 paint colors. Now, with only 2 weeks left of the One Room Challenge, I am eager to get the walls painted so that we can begin to move furniture into the room. After careful debate, we finally decided on a new wall color for the room. hooray! We wanted something soft and light that would accent the photography. We had originally considered painting the room a soft white. So without further ado, the color that we chose is: Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore. Now, I'm convinced that we have to paint the trim and door in Cloud White, a softer slightly warm white that will not look yellow or beige.
In a twist to the plot, we decided to do an accent wall in a deeper color. Many of you responded to our Instagram poll with Blue Dusk and I do like how it looks on one wall! |
